The International English Language Testing System measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. IELTS is required for entry to university in the UK and other countries.
- IELTS is recognized by universities and employers in many countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. It is also recognized by professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies. More than 2 million people a year take the test.
- It uses a nine band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non –user through (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
IELTS is a test series of testing English proficiency conducted by British Council, taken at different centres worldwide. By qualifying this test, students acquire basic eligibility for admission in educational institutions in most of the English speaking countries.
